Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America. Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process. Last week Scout Zack Hardin of Troop 56 completed his Eagle Scout project here at MCR by building and installing 2 benches at MCR and creating and installing an educational interpretive sign about the MCR Bald Eagles.
The benches were installed in two key spots at MCR where visitors are most likely to observe our resident Bald Eagles. One bench is located on the Perimeter Trail just south of the southeast dike overlooking standing dead timber in the water where our eagles typically perch and hunt. The other bench was placed at the I/O Tower parking area at the location of the Scott’s Mountain Hawk Watch. This area is used by volunteers who perform the hawk watch each year and is a great place to see not just Bald Eagles, but also various species of hawks and falcons in migration during the fall.
