Broodstock Tagging

State Stocks Broodstock

Each year from 2009-2013, approximately 100 large brown trout broodstock from the Pequest Hatchery, measuring a whooping 19 – 25 inches were stocked in Merrill Creek Reservoir. These big trout were tagged with a metal jaw tag to evaluate angler success. Anglers who are lucky or skillful enough to catch one of these tagged trout should report their catch by calling the phone number imprinted on the tag. Anglers need to provide the tag number, the date the fish was caught, and the length of the trout in order to be eligible for a certificate and prize awarded by the Merrill Creek Reservoir.
